I am looking for my paternal grandfather, James F. Dolan. I believe he had a brother named Vincent Dolan.
My grandfather was born in New York, New York in about 1903. On October 25, 1925, my father, Eugene Francis Dolan was born in Manhattan. On his birth certificate, my grandfather, James F. Dolan is listed as 22 years of age and my grandmother, Edna Miner Dolan is listed as 18 years of age. Their address is stated at 57 9th Avenue, Long Island City, Ne York.
My father was baptized at St. Patrick's Church in Long Island City, New York on November 8, 1925 and one of the witnesses is Vincent Dolan and he may have been my grandfather's brother.
It is know that shortly after my father's birth, James F. Dolan and Edna Miner Dolan separated. James moved to 234 3rd Avenue, Long Island City, New York where he resided until 1928. Edna Miner Dolan moved back to her mother's at 43 Geranium Avenue, Mineola, New York where she died on December 25, 1926.
Before the Surrogate's Court of Nassau County, James F. Dolan consented to formal adoption of my father Eugene Francis Dolan by his maternal grandmother, Anna A. Miner on July 27, 1927.
There were only two other encounters with James F. Dolan and they are unreliable. The first occured sometime in the early 1930's when he briefly stopped by Mt. St. Joseph's Academy in Newburgh, New York to see my father, Eugene Francis Dolan, who was living at the academy. He gave him a five cent piece.
The second occured sometime from late 1959 to 1962 in Cupertino, California. My mother answered the door and a man said that he was James Dolan and was looking for Gene Dolan. My mother told him that my father was away flying for the Navy. James Dolan told her that he would stop by at a later date but never did.
